A somatic approach

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a somatic approach to psychotherapy in which a therapist asks a patient to hold elements of distressing content in mind while bilateral stimulation is applied. This can take the form of eye movements, audio tones, or gentle tapping.

Pairing distressing thoughts with physical bilateral activation helps the brain reprocess the material and reduce the emotional charge it carries.

When I first heard about EMDR, I was skeptical. But during my own training I experienced it as a patient and found it deeply transformative. I've since worked with many clients using EMDR and continued training in the modality.
